# Live monitoring on the map

> Select an object, read its latest data correctly and distinguish a fresh position, an old point and a tracker without coordinates.

The live map shows the latest position data received for each available object. A marker is not proof that the vehicle is at that place right now: always check the date, time and type of the latest data before making a decision.

 ## Open the map and select an object

 1. Sign in and open **GPS Monitoring**.
2. Find the required object in the panel on the left. Objects may be arranged in groups.
3. Select the object name. Its name becomes highlighted and the map moves to its latest available position.
4. Select the marker to open the data card.

 The checkbox beside an object controls whether it is shown on the map. A group checkbox can show or hide several objects together. These controls do not connect, delete or transfer a tracker, and they do not grant access to another user.

 An object with a warning icon is inactive. Some history and other actions may be unavailable for it until the account or device settings are resolved.

 ## Read the current data card

 Depending on what the tracker sent, the card can contain:

 - the object name and activity state;
- how long ago the point was recorded;
- the point date and time;
- coordinates, speed, direction and altitude;
- battery, GNSS or mobile-network quality;
- inputs, ignition, sensors or other model-specific values.

 An absent value is not the same as zero. For example, a tracker without a connected temperature sensor has not measured a temperature of 0 °C. The displayed speed is the value reported with the point; it does not by itself prove whether the engine is running.

 ## Check whether the point is fresh

 In the current interface, the ordinary activity colours are based on the age of the point:

 - green — no more than 5 minutes old;
- yellow — more than 5 minutes and no more than 10 minutes old;
- red — more than 10 minutes old.

 Special point types can use another colour or warning icon. Therefore, do not rely on colour alone. Read **Recent activity**, **Date and time**, and any note about the coordinates.

 The legacy card may describe an old point as a switched-off tracker. Treat this as “no fresh point” rather than proof that power is physically off. The device may be out of coverage, asleep, unable to send data, incorrectly configured or genuinely powered off.

 ## Old position and recent position are different

 When a marker is yellow or red, it remains at the last stored place. It does not continue moving without new coordinates. The map can therefore show where the object was, not where it is now.

 Before contacting a driver or reacting to an event, compare the point time with your current time and the expected transmission interval. Also check that the selected object is the correct one.

 ## Connection and coordinates are separate

 A tracker can contact the server without providing a new valid GNSS position. For example, a status or ping packet may arrive while the displayed coordinates remain old. Conversely, an old marker does not reveal the exact cause of the communication problem.

 Use these as separate checks:

 1. **Server communication:** did the service receive recent data from this tracker?
2. **Position:** does the latest data contain a usable coordinate with a plausible date and place?

 ## If coordinates have not arrived yet

 A newly connected tracker may appear in the object list before its first coordinate. The interface then displays a warning that no coordinate has been received. A placeholder point or an ocean view is not the tracker's real location.

 Give the device a clear view of the sky, keep it powered, and allow time for both a mobile-data connection and a GNSS fix. Do not delete and add the object repeatedly while waiting.

 ## Map controls

 The toolbar above the map contains several display actions:

 - **Clean** removes the track drawing from the current map view; it does not delete stored history;
- **To center** returns the selected object to the centre of the map;
- **Name** shows or hides object labels;
- **Track tail** draws a short visual trail from new live updates; it is not the archived trip history;
- **Show all** fits the displayed objects into the map.

 Use the layer control on the right to choose an available map background. The exact providers depend on your monitoring website, and an external layer can temporarily be unavailable. Zooming or changing the background does not change tracker data.

 The date selector and **Show track at** controls belong to trip history. They are explained in the separate history chapter.

 ## If the map is not updating

 Check the following without deleting data or resetting the tracker:

 - the correct object is selected;
- the latest point date and time;
- whether the card reports old, invalid, cell-based or missing coordinates;
- power, mobile coverage, SIM data and APN settings;
- the server and port configured in the tracker;
- whether the device has a clear view of the sky;
- whether other map backgrounds work if only the base map is blank.

 If the problem remains, contact us with your login, object name, exact tracker model and identifier, the last date and time shown, and a screenshot of the card. Do not send your password, SIM PIN/PUK or an unrestricted tracking link.
